x10media - Low cost scripts ready to be monetised

Design:

x10Media.com immediately impresses with a professional and uncluttered look. We are given a full width main menu with submenus showing horizontally in the bar menu when the submenu containing menu item is hovered. This makes navigation simple and pleasing. Right below what dominates the design is a slideshow highlighting products offered at the site, along with the attractive imagery, description and pricing. Slideshow alternates automatically with a nice quick fading animation, but can also be browsed with arrows.

The rest of the design, aside from the footer, is two columned. Sidebar shows a live support badge and latest news. The main content area starts with an attractive overview of three ways to proceed with the site, purchase a product, become an affiliate or get the scripts offered hosted. Each option has its own color and gradient style and the whole trio is nicely rounded up into a smooth round cornered box.

Moving further down however reveals a somewhat incomplete picture, with the main content area further divided into columns leaving space for additional content elements, but not filling them. Only the "latest product" and an "x10 mp3 overview" are visible, and a coming soon image. Though it seems easy to guess that these areas will be filled once the content meant for them is finished (like the video tutorials), it might have been better to fill them with something else until that time, perhaps direct links to some of the scripts offered.

The footer seems to repeat much of the links from the main menu with directly visible links from the submenus, which is a good thing in the rare case someones javascript doesn't work, or just for additional convenience.

Sub sections continue with a mostly clean and usable design, but some areas could use improvement. The blog is a little bare and could use some spacing between the part displaying title, author, date and the content below. It also doesn't appear to have a way of posting comments. Forums seem to be missing, unless registration is required to make them visible, in which case this should probably be explicitly noted on the page. And the affiliates area is a bit too cramped and could also use some spacing or padding between and around elements. The login, sign up and contact button could also look even better if centered.

Articles in the knowledgebase could use some styling improvements too, such as a more distinct style of displaying code. knowledgebase also seems to break the styling of the footer as links appear black and as such nearly invisible and only some of them turn blue only on highlight.

Overall though the design is well rounded and usable, aside from the mentioned issues in specific sections. The most relevant sections, the scripts and add on pages look good and work well.

The box at the top right with buttons to adjust font size, the width of the whole site and access the RSS feed is also a nice touch, albeit it is probably one of the built in features of the CMS theme being used.

Focus:

The name, x10media, and the slogan "more than expected" aren't quite clear about what can be found on the site, but observing the slideshow one can fairly quickly get the idea. The about page however does make it clear as it briefly describes what x10media is here for and what is being offered. Perhaps though a mini version of that, just a sentence saying explicitly what the site is offering and then linking to the about page with a "more" link could be added to the currently empty area next to the "latest product". This would fill up an empty area making it look more complete and also help a skimmer zero in on the focus of the site.

Content:

Since the x10media.com primarily offers scripts that's the content to look for in addition to useful information about it. There are five scripts and six add ons accessible from both the main menu and corresponding (scripts and add-ons) sections. Each script comes with a description of its purpose, features and highlights and link to the dedicated page with additional information such as server requirements, optimal and optional server settings and a table of user side and admin side highlights.

It might also make sense to list add ons corresponding to that script on its dedicate page. Add ons are now presented in categories corresponding to the script. All things considered x10media does a good job in presenting its scripts with plenty of descriptive content so the potential buyer should have more than enough information to make a choice.

There is also the helpdesk and a corresponding knowledgebase for support. It doesn't contain a lot, though is some useful material, such as this common errors and solutions article.

Content rating: 9/10

Overall:

x10media.com, as a site that offers scripts and corresponding add ons for enabling various web services does a fair job at presenting them and supporting them. That said, while first impressions are of a professionally designed web site further inspection does reveal some issues that somewhat break that image, but they don't significantly get in the way of usability. If you're looking for some affordable web scripts for a new online venture, this site is worth checking out.
